Only half of first line

In printing to a HP Laserjet 4L I get only about half of the first line,
is their anyway to adjust how ghostscript creates the page?

I print from a package that generates postscript to a Linux box that
runs redhat's magic print filters, and it turns the postscript into
the appropriate dialect of PCL and shunts it off to a Windows machine
which is connected to the printer.  THe text looks good including lines,
format, etc...  it is only the first line that is a problem.  I've been
through the man page etc.. and printing-usage-HOWTO which talks about
a 4L exactly but never mentions the first line problem.
