CD-RW Works. Burns CDR's and CDRW's with cdrecord.
DVD (combo with CD) Works. Plays DVD's with MPlayer.
Modem Works. A winmodem. Started working with SuSE 9.1.
Broken with SuSE 9.2 stock install.
Fixed with a SuSE 9.2 update.
PCMCIA Works. Tested with Orinoco silver wireless card.
USB ports Works. Works with a USB flash drive, and a USB mouse.
IEEE1394 port Works. Tested with external firewire hard drive.
Serial port None. I bought a $20 USB to serial converter that seems to work fine.
Monitor port Works. Tested on VGA projector.
Parallel port Works. Recoginized by kernel. Not tested.
Ethernet port Works. e100 module.
APM Works. Power off on shutdown works.
Remaining battery power works.
The rest is untested by me.
FIR (Infrared) port ????? Not tested.
SD card slot Not yet. Not recognized.
Centrino wireless Works. Works with native Intel driver on SuSE 9.2.
Works with ndiswrapper on SuSE 9.1.

Miscellaneous Notes
Redhat 9 and SuSE 9.x installed and configured most supported hardware flawlessly.
When the display returns from "power save mode" (backlight turned off), the screen is distorted.
You can CTRL-ALT-Fx to switch to a virtual console and ALT-F7 back to X to fix the display.
Or you can download and install nVIDIA's XFree86-4 driver to fix the problem.
BIOS settings were left at factory defaults.

Summary
I really like this laptop and recommend it! It is extremely well supported under Redhat and SuSE.

The only minor bummers are:

  • No serial port, which can be "fixed" with a $20 USB to Serial converter.
  • Suspend doesn't seem to work with ACPI, but does work with APM.
